WE WANT TO DEMOCRATIZE THE UNITED NATIONS
WE, HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS, URGENTLY NEED THE UNITED NATIONS TO EMPOWER US WITH THE FOLLOWING CONCESSIONS:
1. RIGHT TO VOTE ON EVERYTHING RELATED TO HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES.
2. RIGHT TO FULLY PARTICIPATE IN HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANS.
3. EFFECTIVE PROTECTION AGAINST STATES VIOLATING HUMAN RIGHTS.
Therefore, our NGO Corriente Martiana on January 8, 2021 presented its CHANGE PROPOSAL TO DEMOCRATIZE THE UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS SYSTEM (click on the previous title to access the full text of the petition).
In one of its parts, our proposal says:
"... we propose that defenders be included in the decision-making bodies and agencies of the United Nations on the subject of human rights, such as its Human Rights Council, Special Procedures and others ... It is necessary to go further from the formal plans that have given rise to Declaration 53/144 and the appointment of a Special Rapporteur on this issue, because practical, specific and effective actions are needed ... Actions must accompany the words ".
Further on, our NGO emphasizes:
"There is no argument on which to base the decision that States violating human rights are the ones who exclusively watch over the fulfillment of their duties and those of other States on the respect, protection, guarantee and promotion of human rights. It is illogical that States that fail to fulfill their human rights duties are treated as if they were acting correctly. It is time to democratize the United Nations system ... “
Because of the importance of this matter, we invite all organizations interested in the subject to be an active part of this INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN "WE WANT TO DEMOCRATIZE THE UN" by joining it in one of the following two ways:
1. The participating organization writes and argues how and why human rights defenders should be empowered and protected. Then the organization sends that document to the UN instances it deems pertinent, with a copy to our email cmartiana02@gmail.com to know that the sender is part of the campaign, count requests and tabulates arguments in order to publish them.
2. If the participating organization does not believe it necessary to present arguments other than those presented by our NGO, the organization joins this campaign by providing the information requested in the following form:
NOTE: Each participating organization can freely publicize this campaign through the channels they deem appropriate and can also invite other organizations to join the campaign.
